A Family Bingo Card
During the 2020 Covid years when we were all stuck at home for a bit, my husband and I tried to find creative ways to get out of the house. Outdoors felt like the answer but our kids were 3 and 6 at the time and not exactly excited about a walk around the neighborhood or a hike in the woods. So, we started making little custom bingo cards. Having specific things to look for along the way made these outings more fun for all and greatly decreased the frequency of “are we there yets”.
Pre-made cards like this can be purchased various places online - but we found being able to customize our own based on the location and familiar landmarks made things more fun. The kids started adding their own prompts as well and got extremely (impossibly) specific. Case in point, on one of our bingo cards our son added: “Guy running with blue shirt and orange shorts” or “guy sitting on a bench with a cowboy hat.” Needless to say … These items did not get crossed off but we had fun keeping an eye out.

As you can see … These cards do not have to be cute or perfectly drawn. Our kids started to look forward to coming up with ideas for the cards and the time outdoors that would follow. Years later we don’t need to rely on bingo and our kids have more endurance from the practice of walking and noticing. I hope you give it a try!
As with all ideas I share, these things can be done on any scrap of paper, but if you would like a template to get started, I have included a FREE DOWNLOAD here! This template works for road trips, neighborhood walks, hikes and more!

If walking around your own neighborhood, add things you might see - especially specific landmarks that kids will enjoy looking for!
